Language,
Computer and Electronics Courses |
 |
Once a year we
organise English courses where we invite teachers from Great Britain. The
course is open to everybody who wants to study and practise the language. The students
vary in age from 15 to 50 years but most are high school students or young adults.
At the end of 1997 we started a three month computer
course for children, young people and adults. A specialist in computers comes to
teach the basics of computer programming. We now have 15 second hand computers which have
been configured specially for this. For the first course we registered 70 students who
were divided into groups. We repeat the course four times a year and we expect to have
between 200 and 240 students. There is no other business or company in the town which
teaches computing, so the demand is high, particularly as our society develops.
At the electronics course we have 20 children
aged from 10-14. The children come to this course to learn many practical aspects of
electronics. |

 | Justification of the project
|
We consider this very necessary in our society, as we noticed
that there are many young people who have intellectual capacity but do not have material
support to finish their study and develop their training.
 | Objectives of the project
|
To encourage and support children and young people materially
to continue their studies and to motivate their family members to support them emotionally
and spiritually.
 | Summary of the project
|
We are currently helping fifteen students and high school
pupils who come from families which cannot support them to go to school or university.
Because of financial difficulties in their families, many children have to end their
education before they start high school. Although schooling in Romania is free, the costs
of uniform and stationery can be a great burden for a poor family. We want to develop this
project and increase the number of the children we support. We provide for the material
needs of the children and talk to their parents about how they can provide good emotional
support for their children.
There are some very talented children who, for this same
reason, cannot continue at school. We want to identify such children and help support them
so they can finish their education. |
 |
 | Justification of the project
|
Children in the towns Special School often have specific
and special material needs.
 | Objectives of the project
|
Direct help for the children that are in this school.
 | Summary of the project
|
In our town there is a school for children with learning
difficulties. They come from poor families. They are called "slow learners"
because they progress at about half the rate of the other children. During the years, we
have supported them in several ways. We have paid for two sets of 20 desks to be made.
Each Easter and Christmas we gave gifts to the children. Additionally, every week the
classes come with their Religious Education teacher to see a Christian video. |

|
 | Justification of the project
|
Many children, particularly those from families with financial
and material difficulties, leave prematurely after the 8th form of elementary school.
 | Objectives of the project
|
To support and train the children that come from families with
financial difficulties and so avoid premature school leaving.
 | Summary of the project
|
For the past three years we have paid for a specialist subject
teacher to come and give extra lessons to children who are in grades 7-8 to prepare them
for the high school entrance exams in mathematics, physics and Romanian language. |

|
 | Justification of the project
|
To encourage and support the publishing of literature.
 | Objectives of the project
|
To cover the cost of publishing, partly or fully.
 | Summary of the project
|
The foundation sponsored the publishing of some poetry books,
including one volume of Christian poetry by Lidia Dan from Cluj. Also, we plan for this
year to cover partly, the publishing cost of two more volumes (one of Christian poetry and
another of Christian essays) by the famous writer, Lidia Dan, from Cluj. |
